For amounts greater than our specified threshold, you will be asked to show your ID and sign the documentation.

You can request your currency in specific denominations, such as 10 $1 notes plus nine $10 notes. Choose a combination of denominations that suits you best - some extra small notes for your trip, or large notes for a large payment, etc.

Please be informed that there may be circumstances where the currency and/or denominations of your choice are not available. Also note that foreign coins are not available.
All transactions are cash only.
Damaged banknotes, such as those with tears, stains or graffiti, cannot be exchanged.
Same-day rate revisions and campaign cancellations may occur due to market turbulence or other circumstances.
As required by the Law for Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds, you will be asked to show your official ID for transactions over ¥2,000,000. For amounts greater than our specified threshold, you will also be asked to show your ID and sign the documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What currencies can I exchange?: The following 16 foreign currencies are offered: US dollar, euro, Chinese yuan, Korean won, UK pound, Taiwan dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Hong Kong dollar, Thai baht, Swiss franc, New Zealand dollar, Singapore dollar, Philippine peso, Indonesian rupiah and Malaysian ringgit.
What is the minimum amount I can exchange?: You can exchange as little as one banknote when buying or selling.
Is there an upper limit to the amount of my transaction?: You can exchange up to 2,000,000 Japanese yen, or the foreign currency equivalent, on presentation of an official form of identification. If you wish to exchange more, please contact our Customer Service team.
When are your exchange rates updated?: Our exchange rates are updated around midday on weekdays (except Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays). However, they are subject to change at short notice within the same day due to market turbulence or other circumstances.
Can I exchange coins?: Yes, but only in shops, and only three types of coins may be exchanged: US 25-cent, 1-euro and 2-euro coins.

Do I need an ID?: You will be asked to show an official form of identification if you wish to exchange more than 500,000 Japanese yen, or the foreign currency equivalent, in accordance with our policy.
What is the minimum amount I can exchange?: There is no set minimum amount. You can exchange as little as one banknote.
Can I request specific denominations?: If you have specific numbers in mind, please let our staff know. We will do our best to meet your requirements. This is subject to stock availability, however. Please check with your nearest shop in advance.

Can I exchange old banknotes?: Only banknotes that are currently in circulation in the country/region concerned may be exchanged. Non-exchangeable banknotes will be returned to you.

Can I exchange my foreign currency for a different foreign currency?: We do not offer direct foreign-to-foreign exchange transactions. You will have to exchange it for Japanese yen first.
Do you exchange travellers cheques?: Unfortunately, we do not exchange travellers cheques.
Can I pay by credit card?: We are sorry, but we only accept cash.
